Finalist for the FAD awards. The intervention took place entirely within the grounds of La Maternitat Hospital in Barcelona, where different architectural styles are concentrated, from the late modernism of the old Lavandería Ward (architect: Camil Oliveras 1883) to buildings influenced by the modern movement, such as the Cambó Ward (architect: Manuel Baldrich 1953). The refurbishment work consisted of transforming the Lavandería, Hermanas, Rosa and Cambó Wards into the Barcelona Provincial Council Archives and office buildings to house the COOB 92 headquarters (Rosa, Olimpia and Helios Wards). The intervention was carried out respecting the original façades, in some cases enlarging openings to allow light to enter, and adapting the interior to the new function, combining the pre-existing elements with flexible layouts to allow for future changes of use. In the case of the Provincial Council’s archive, a large underground storage area had to be added to house a large amount of documentation.
